Volunteer interviewers, cooks and food servers needed for the “Peoples’ Plan for Pandora”
Sunday, September 19th at Pandora Green
Pandora’s 900-block is an important gathering place for Victoria’s street community. In response to complaints from housed neighbourhood residents and business owners, the City of Victoria released plans to “beautify” the block and made a move to ban camping on the median. Yet missing from the City plans are the people most affected by these plans and regulations: the street community and the residents of Pandora Green. The “Peoples’ Plan for Pandora” is a grassroots initiative to gather and record the thoughts and visions of the people who gather on the block.
What we’re doing:
VCAP has been collecting peoples’ thoughts and visions on the 900-block through an informal survey. We’re now planning an informal block meeting on the “Peoples’ Plan for Pandora”. The forum will be a space for people who gather on Pandora Green to eat together, participate in discussions and share their ideas.
When we’re meeting for the “Peoples’ Plan”:
Our block meeting will begin at 1 pm on Sunday, September 19th at Pandora Green (between Quadra and Cook).
How you can support this project:
* Help out with food! We need people to come and help us make wraps to serve on Pandora Green.
Meeting place: Action Committee of People with Disabilities (ACPD), 948 View Street
Meeting time: 11 am
* Help out with outreach! We will have handbills to give to members of our street community inviting them to our meeting. We’ll need people to walk around and spread the word.
Meeting place: Pandora Green
Meeting time: 1 pm
* Help out with interviewing! We need people to interview folks, and we’re especially interested in finding people how are familiar with Victoria’s street community. If you are interested, please send us an email at Vcap.firstname.lastname@example.org.
